Were you or someone you know at the infamous street party where hundreds gathered to launch the Women’s Mural in Hodgkinson Street and Smith Street, Clifton Hill, on Saturday 5th April, 1986?
Where you in any of the bands that played at the launch of the mural in 1986?

Did you photograph the mural while the artists were painting it?
Have you taken a photo in front of the mural at some stage over its 30 year history?

Did you gaze at the mural from the No.86 tram on your daily commute?
Are you a friend of one of the women depicted in the original mural?
Did you take photos when the mural was defaced in 2016?
Did you take photos of the commentary and series interventions that appeared on the mural after it was defaced?
Did you take photos of the mural being dismantled?

Did you work at the now demolished Gas and Fuel depot behind the mural?
Or do you just want to tell us what the mural means to you?
Whatever your involvement with the mural and no matter how small your contribution is we want to hear it!

Danielle Hakim and Sally Northfield  have been consulting with the community and key stakeholders since 2016 to gather stories and other ephemera and offerings, such as photos and anecdotes. We have researched the story of the mural in depth, photographed the ongoing interventions by the public, explored the mural’s context within the history of street murals and street art and identified a number of options for documentation. One of the options identified was a digital mural and we are excited to see this come to fruition in 2019. Click here for digital mural. We'd love the community to continue to help us complete the picture by sharing ideas, recollections, photos or even a short email to us would be welcome.
